What about those fun PC Games?

Games, are such an outlet for so many reasons. mech

And on the PC they certainly were not easy to play... I suppose PC's and games just were simply not meant for each other. At least in the beginning they weren't. Slow processors, very slow graphics performance, limited memory architechture... and yet, hundreds of people slaved to make more and more games everyday.

So how did this get me into the world of systems administration? Games never work...

Or when they did it basically meant you had to sacrifice everything else that was on your computer. I guess somewhere on the way I decided that their had to be a way to do everything I wanted to do on the computer without having to reconfigure everyting when ever a new game came out.

I was wrong... I did still have to reconfigure just about everything with each new game... and to make things even more interesting there are plenty of "standards" of networking on the PC, so the fun of figuring out what game wanted what protocol, or what application layer, was always a challenge.

However, due my merticulous nature, I learned everything a poor end-user could ever hope to learn to try and make these silly games work. Operating systems, memory management, hardware drivers, patches, updates, software configs, hardware interupts, network stacks... They are all like the back of my hand at this point...
